Top 10 Dunks 2009

I’m sorry but that Josh Smith dunk (#6) was clearly the best one.

Mets Land Jason Bay

ESPN.com:

Free-agent outfielder Jason Bay has reached agreement on a four-year, guaranteed $66 million contract with the New York Mets, a baseball source confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday.

The agreement will become official once Bay passes a physical exam sometime next week, the source said. The deal includes a vesting option year that could increase Bay’s overall payout to slightly more than $80 million over five years.

WFAN was the first to report the agreement had been reached.

Bay, a three-time All-Star, hit .267 with 36 home runs and 119 RBIs for the Boston Red Sox in 2009.

Bay and outfielder Matt Holliday were the most hotly pursued position players on the free-agent market this winter.

Great. Glad we finally got this out of the way. Now Omar needs go give the extra year to Bengie Molina, go after Joel Pineiro and give Delgado another shot at 1st base (throw him an incentive-laden contract and he’ll stay healthy). A rotation of Santana, Pineiro, Maine,  Pelfrey and maybe Sheets, maybe Niese, maybe Figueroa or (oh god) maybe Perez gives the Mets an excellent chance in the NL East next year. A lineup of Reyes, Hudson, Wright, Beltran, Bay, Delgado, Franceour and Molina will give any pitcher fits. And yeah that’s right, we need Orlando Hudson in here. Omar has to find some way to get rid of the mistake that was signing Luis Castillo to that ridiculous 4-year contract and replace him with Hudson, a good GM would find a way.

I have nothing against Tracy McGrady, but when you’re an injury-prone former all-star on the downhill, who when he was decent still couldn’t get his team past the 1st round of the playoffs (with or w/o Yao Ming), should you really be complaining about minutes? I’d send his ass to the Nets, that’d show him.

Week 16: Jets 29, Colts 15

Of course I’m elated that Peyton Manning got benched (the right decision IMO) so that we could win. Of course I’m happy that we ended the Colts undefeated season. Of course, I’m relieved that destiny will lie solely in our hands next week at home against Cincinnati. But today just reminded me again of how good we’d be if we had a better QB. To think with our stellar defense and running game, just having an average QB this season would’ve meant a playoff spot awhile ago. But instead it cones down to the last week of the regular season and that shouldn’t have been the case. Now the only things standing in the way of a playoff spot are our history…..and our quarterback.

Urban Meyer Retires

Unless he has insider information that the rest of the world is unaware of, does Mike Lupica not get enough attention from The Daily News without making bizarre claims such as pretty much guaranteeing LeBron James suits up for the Knickerbockers next season? Because I just don’t see it. No matter how much the Knicks get under the cap after this season, they’re still not winning a championship anytime soon. It’s not like LeBron needs the money, he’s popular enough without playing on the world’s greatest stage and hell, even his mama has already spoken and said no, it ain’t happening.

Bottom line, if LeBron has ANY sense, he’ll stay with the Cavs. It’s his hometown and no matter how much he continues to irk Cleveland fans, they’ll still love and worship him. Plus, the money will take care of itself, he already makes millions from endorsments and once Kobe retires he will is THE face of the NBA. On the playing side, the Cavs are already a very good team and just got to NBA Finals a couple of years ago. If an old, beat-up Shaq can’t bring LeBron a title this year, my guess is Cleveland will eventually find a suitable No. 2 (ala Pippen to Jordan) for LeBron to finally get over the hump and win that almighty ring. All said, best move….no make the SMART move is for LeBron to stay his ass right where it is now. Don’t even think about the Knicks no matter what Lupica says.

To me, Floyd saw that Cotto fight again and got nervous. But then too if Pacquiao really hasn’t ever messed with PED’s he should just go ahead, do the Olympic testing and take out his anger on Floyd in the ring instead of the courts.

George Michael R.I.P.

I used to watch the George Michael Sports Machine with diligence, no one broke it down like George Michael did. And yeah, he could make a meaningless Nets/Clippers game on a Sunday night sound exciting, that was his gift. He’ll be missed.
